Crinan Canal
More Leeds & Liverpool restrictions
Thursday, 03 June 2010 13:04

BRITISH Waterways is imposing more restrictions on the Leeds & Liverpool Canal by restricting the hours of usage of Plank Lane Bridge on the Leigh Branch.

Stated as being for a trial period, operation of the  bridge will be restricted to use during June between the hours of 8.30am and 4.30pm.  The hours could be lengthened however during the school holidays of August.

A statement from BW reads:

'The reduction in the operating hours follows a recent review to reduce operating costs and streamline services. The money saved will be re-distributed to the much needed works required around the network'.

In the near future, we are told that it is hoped 'volunteer time contributions can be directed towards manning locks and bridges', including Plank Lane Lift Bridge.
