AFTER a string of attacks on the Regent's Canal towpath a warning was issued for people to keep off the towpath after dark, but this has been ignored, with two more attacks reported.
The latest attack was particularly vicious as the gang of thugs broke a cyclist's jaw after robbing him of his his cycle in Mile End, Alan Tilbury reports.
Kicked on the ground
The man was cycling along the towpath through Mile End Park after 6pm when his path was blocked by a youth who punched him in the face, with a gang then appearing and kicking him as he lay on the ground, stealing his bike and mobile phone. (The picture shows the location of another attack on the Regent's Canal, in Camden.)
He was then punched and kicked to the floor again by the gang of attackers as he tried to escape, with his jaw being broken. However he eventually managed to get away, and called the police and ambulance service, and was taken to hospital where he received treatment for the broken jaw and other injuries. (The picture shows the location of another Regent's Canal attack, in Islington.)
Attacking another man
Detective Constable Dean Oakwell from the Tower Hamlets police's robbery squad told that the group of youths were attacking another man just before the incident took place.
The ringleader is described by police as an Asian youth aged around 16, 5ft 8ins tall, of slim to medium build with short black hair.
